Senior Process Engineer

The Company

A thermochemical technology start-up pioneering the production of renewable fuels, chemicals and gases. The patented hydrothermal treatment technology converts various forms of waste carbon using heat and pressure.

The vision is to transform the international energy market by creating an integrated thermochemical treatment pathway that reduces the dependency on fossil and electric power for fuels. We will utilise solar, geothermal, post-combustion and all waste heat sources to accelerate sustainable fuels, chemicals and gas production.

Role Introduction

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chemical/Process Engineer to play a key role in scaling up our novel climate tech. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the acceleration of the technology through the Technology Readiness Levels. You will play a key role in supporting the design of pilot and First-of-a-Kind commercial plants. This involves building sophisticated models to predict reactor behavior, optimizing gas flows, and advancing our syngas cleanup and methanol production efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Play an integral role in the design and development unique green methanol pilot and commercial projects
  • Project management of scale-up operations from laboratory to pilot project and beyond to First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) commercial plants
  • Responsible for working with the engineer and scientific team to deliver projects on a timely basis
  • Design processes to optimise gas flow performance and methanol production efficiency
  • Liaising with the financial manager to ensure projects are delivered within budget
  • Develop and implement models to simulate the behaviour of hydrothermal/chemical reactors under various temperatures and pressures
  • Document all design work and process improvements to ensure it meets industry standards and regulatory requirements; Contribute to innovation and patent applications as required.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers, vendors and third parties to source off the shelf and custom parts

Skills and Experience

  • Experienced in working on medium to large-scale engineering projects
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in modelling and simulation of chemical processes, particularly reactor behaviour, gas flows, and temperature and pressure controls
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and documentation capabilities; ISO 9001 knowledge a plus

Estimated Salary Band:

£60,000-£80,000 p.a. based on candidate experience
