My client is seeking an Assistant Accountant to take full ownership of their Accounts/Finance function. This role is integral to their company, overseeing day-to-day and month-end financial management and accounting processes. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing payroll, managing cash and credit card transactions, and handling VAT and direct tax matters. This position offers the opportunity to produce financial information for budget holders and Directors and serve as the primary contact for financial queries.

To be successful in this role you will be AAT qualified or part-qualified CIMA or ACCA and have a minimum of 5 years' finance & accountancy experience preferably using Sage 50.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Oversee financial management and accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Process payroll and manage cash flow and credit card transactions.
  • Handle VAT returns and direct tax matters efficiently.
  • Produce accurate financial reports for budget holders and Directors.
  • Act as the primary contact for financial queries from internal staff, external clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Support the Finance Director/Managing Director and Operations Director with all business accounting activities.
  • Assist in the delivery of statutory, legal, and validation requirements through liaison with auditors, validating bodies, and external financial and legal advisors.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for the Board of Directors.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in financial management and accounting.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processing, cash management, and tax matters.
  • Ability to produce accurate financial reports and handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adept at working independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications in finance or accounting are highly desirable.
