HVAC Maintenance Engineer

An experienced HVAC Maintenance Engineer with 3-5 years of HVAC maintenance and repair experience is needed to join our team at GCP Facilities, a leading company operating within the Facilities Management industry based in Kent on a full-time basis.

The HVAC Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure efficient and reliable operation.

The role includes performing routine maintenance tasks, diagnosing system issues, and implementing corrective actions to maintain optimal indoor air quality and thermal comfort.

The position will be for a contractor rather than PAYE, but we can guarantee permanent work as we have multiple clients on annual service contracts.

About the Role

Work for this role is primarily performed in commercial and industrial settings, including confined spaces, rooftops, and varying weather conditions, requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting heavy equipment and materials.

The role requires lifting and carrying equipment and materials, standing, walking, and climbing ladders for maintenance tasks, and possessing good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in HVAC systems, including compressors, fans, thermostats, and other components
  • Replace defective components, such as motors, controls, and switches
  • Monitor HVAC system performance and identify potential issues before they become major problems
  • Maintain accurate records of system performance, maintenance activities, and repairs
  • Assist in training facility personnel on the proper use and care of HVAC systems
  • Implement energy-saving measures and recommend upgrades to improve system efficiency
  • Stay updated on the latest energy-efficient technologies and practices
  • Ensure all HVAC maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Required Experience:

  • Associate degree or NVQ certification in HVAC technology, mechanical engineering, or a related field
  • HVAC technician certification, e.g., EPA Section 608, F-Gas preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair
  • Proven track record of troubleshooting and repairing various types of HVAC systems

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency with HVAC diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and maintenance practices
  • Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and safety standards
  • Understanding of energy-efficient technologies and maintenance practices
