Health and Safety Advisor

The role

As the competent Health and Safety Advisor for Traded Services and Waste & Cleaning Divisions, provide health and safety oversight and assurance to leadership teams, services and operational management teams. Provide professional advice, guidance, support and assistance to all stakeholders, promoting awareness of and compliance with legislative and best practice requirements.

The role will be based in depots and require visiting site-based environments across the Borough.

You will be one of a number of H&S professionals working in the Council and will have a support network for knowledge sharing, continuous professional development and individual support and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and implement proactive measures to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Create H&S process and procedure that align with recognised standards and implement effective strategies for continuous improvement and transformation
  • Supporting and implementing comprehensive health and safety strategies tailored to our frontline services
  • Leverage expertise, using negotiation and influence, to garner support from operatives, service managers, and stakeholders

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Great communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders, promote a culture of safety and display a passion for making a positive impact
  • Holding an IOSH qualification with a background in health and safety advice and management
  • Able to create robust H&S processes, structures and systems
  • A high comfort level with ambiguity, able to navigate challenging opinions with ease
