Logistics Manager

Are you an experienced Logistics Manager, looking for a new and exciting challenge? Do you have experience within automotive operations or supply chain environment?

Baltic Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Logistics Manager, working for a highly reputable client located in Birmingham. This is on a 12-month FTC but could be extended. The successful candidate will be part of overall plant activities, lead Customer Service/Planning, Master Schedule, Materials Management and Plant Logistics functions, to achieve plant operational targets including Customer On-Time Delivery and Inventory Performance.

You will have supervision of direct reports and providing direction and strong leadership, including responsibility for their motivation, training, personal development, setting of objectives and reporting.

Logistics Manager Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordination of department activities / allocate resource & prioritise workload to ensure customer requirements are met by accurate planning of manufacturing resource, procurement and availability of supplied parts whilst maintaining and improving inventory and key supply chain targets.
  • Initiate activities to achieve on time delivery in full to customer (OTD) and seek improvements to customer perception, and solutions to issues impacting performance.
  • Manage and co-ordinate activities focused on inventory reduction to achieve the optimum level of inventory for the plant.
  • Ensure regular reviews to identify sales, supply and inventory performance via key measures of performance and identify action plans to recover any non-conformance.
  • Liaising and negotiating with customers and suppliers daily; to develop and maintain relationships. Attending supplier and customer meetings to review and implement improvement plans where necessary.
  • Develop and implement strategies and plans / opportunities for the removal of waste - inventory, logistics and planning - to meet financial targets.
  • Regular review of production outputs against targets, capacity planning to ensure customer and production plans are communicated and assessed.
  • Identify packaging solutions to meet customer, supplier and company needs to ensure product quality and integrity whilst ensuring all budgetary and environmental requirements are met.
  • Identify supplier and customer logistics protocols, inventory management, communication processes and packaging are in place and meet timing and budgetary requirements.

  • Develop, manage and execute Lean logistics processes within both the internal and external supply chains e.g. Kanban, pull supply processes, SAP/MRP systems.
  • Contribute to all NPI activities and ensure transport, packaging and supply chain processes are in place to meet project cost and timing requirements e.g. manage ramp-ups, negotiate with customers/suppliers, handle bottlenecks/concerns, prototype supplies.
  • Manage material procurement activities for the plant with the continuing objectives of reducing lead times, increasing consignment stock, reducing inventories and minimising costs whilst making sure that raw materials are always available to meet production plans.
  • Exercise high standards of H & S at all times.
  • To contribute as a member of the Management Team with the aim of reducing overheads and working within the budgetary allocation for the Logistics Department.

Logistics Manager Applicants:

Education / Qualifications Required:

  • Qualified to degree or equivalent in Transport/Supply/Logistics or business management discipline.
  • Ideally Six Sigma Black / Green Belt accredited.

Experience Required:

  • Significant experience of working with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Experience within an automotive operations or supply chain environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills with the enthusiasm and tenacity to drive improvement are essential.
  • Good team working skills with the ability to make an impact at all levels.

Salary: £75,000 to £80,000 DOE. Working Monday - Thursday 8am - 4.30pm and Friday's 8am - 1pm. There may be flexibility required to be able to work outside of these hours.
