Product Design Lead - Core Transaction and Retail

Posted by Holland & Barrett International Limited.

This is a hybrid role with an expectation to be in either the London or Nuneaton office once a week

Holland & Barrett is the UK's leading wellness retailer and the largest in Europe. Our purpose is to make health and wellness a way of life for everyone, adding quality years to life. We do this through offering holistic wellness solutions (products, advice and services) that promote preventative health.

With over 150 years of experience in the industry, we are an internationally trusted brand, and our ambition is to become the world's most trusted wellness partner, chosen by over 100 million people globally.

As Product Design Lead you will drive and deliver end-to-end user experiences across web, app and in store for both our customers and colleagues. Your leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping omnichannel customer journeys. Your responsibilities will span from attracting potential customers through our landing experiences to helping them find what they need through seamless search, navigation, category exploration, brand exploration, wellness hubs, and content consumption. You will also be responsible for optimising the purchase process, including the basket/checkout and payments experience. In addition, you will lead the design for our retail stores and in store tech, from basket and tills to self checkout.

About the role

  • Designing an exceptional end-to-end customer experience across web, app and in store platforms
  • Leading a team of 6-7 designers at different levels, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to deliver high quality experiences and foster their professional growth
  • Working closely with the Design System team to input into and adopt the design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across all customer touchpoints
  • Conducting user research, gather insights, and leverage data to inform design decisions and drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including Product and Engineering, to understand business goals and translate them into innovative design solutions
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in experience design, and advocate for their implementation where relevant
  • Collaborating with Customer Insights and UXR teams to develop and execute user feedback initiatives, using insights to optimise the customer experience
  • Presenting design concepts, strategies, and outcomes to key stakeholders, articulating the rationale behind design decisions and incorporating feedback into iterative design cycles

Skills and experience

  • Proven track record of designing exceptional customer experiences across web and app platforms, and preferably large touch screen or retail tech.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading high performing design teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Strong expertise in user-centered design principles, interaction design, information architecture, and visual design.
  • Proficiency in Figma and other design tools, being both hands on as well as in a coaching and mentoring role
  • Understanding of UX research methodologies, with the ability to gather insights and translate them into actionable design solutions – both in discovery and optimisation stages.
  • Excellent understanding of front-end development technologies and their impact on design - you can debate the details proficiently with your engineering partners.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage deadlines, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
