Oldham are looking for a Category Manager to lead and deliver high-quality, innovative, and intelligence-led category management across various spend areas. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with senior service colleagues, commissioners, category teams, contract managers, suppliers, and external partners, and be fully engaged within a specific service area of the council to develop a commercial strategy.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Manage complex procurements with significant impact on individuals, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Influence and shape policy decision-making by providing innovative business insight and category expertise.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of procurement projects in collaboration with the client area.
  • Lead the design and delivery of innovative procurement category strategies that challenge existing delivery models and ensure corporate objectives and service needs are met.
  • Plan and ensure the timely delivery of sourcing activities, including tender processes, to achieve the best commercial outcomes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Exceptional experience in category management and procurement within a public sector environment.
  • Proven track record of leading high-value procurement exercises and delivering value for money.
  • Commercial and market intelligence expertise to support strategic planning and project delivery.
