Teaching assistant - to work with Complex Learning Needs children

30 hrs Mon - Fri Term time

Start date: ASAP - to also continue into the new academic year in September 2024

We are working in partnership with this amazing SEN School to find a teaching assistant with the passion, professionalism and skills to support students with a wide range of complex needs. The students from 5 - 16 years have a range of physical, mental and SEN diversities, are both verbal and non verbal.

The students want to:

  • Learn new things but most of the time this is difficult and need support
  • Not always able to vocalise how we feel and find it hard to communicate with people.
  • Enjoy communicating with signs, pictures, or motions.
  • May need assistance with personal care
  • Our vision and hearing may well be impaired, someone who has patience
  • May need help with our mobility.

  • Be Proactive with our 1-1 learning, tasks, and activities in and outside the classroom.
  • Actively seek out suitable learning opportunities for us.

  • Good communication and listening skills and a knowledge of PECS & Makaton to help us communicate with our friends.
  • Recognise potential which will need to be encouraged and supported.
  • Can understand any triggers and traits and help us manage them.
  • Work as part of a team in class and help build upon your existing knowledge.
  • Willingness to learn new skills & new tasks.
  • Open to training courses to aid with a further understanding of our needs.
