Primary Outreach Worker

Long - Term Teachers have a unique and interesting role, based in Quedgeley, that is starting immediately on a full time basis. As a primary Outreach practitioner, will will work with a group of mainstream schools delivering outreach interventions programmed to students on a 1:1 or small group basis. The ultimate goal is to offer schools guidance and strategies to support students successfully, to ensure they can stay within a mainstream setting; and avoid permanent exclusion.

Key duties:

  • To develop a programme of different interventions to support students with a range of complex and challenging needs who have been referred for Tier 1 support.
  • To provide advice, guidance and support to students and staff in mainstream schools.
  • At the start of the intervention programme agree with the mainstream school the focus of the intervention and the agreed timescales for work.
  • Establish positive working relationships with students modelling the schools expectations of ready, respectful, safe.
  • Help students to manage their behaviour in a relational, trauma informed way, in line with the school's Relationships & Behaviour Policy, supporting de-escalation as needed.
  • Visit schools and gather information for new referrals including pupil observation, staff consultation and visit note completion.
  • To keep accurate records of work undertaken with assessment and progress information shared with the school each week.
  • Complete an end of intervention report for the mainstream school providing advice and recommended strategies for the school to implement as part of their graduated pathway.
  • As part of the intervention programme, attend any multi professional meetings, as organised by the mainstream school, including any EHC reviews, PEP meetings or team around the child meetings.
  • Provide termly reports on work undertaken including numbers of schools and students who have been supported and the types of work undertaken.

About you:

Prior to your application, it is essential that you have significant experience of working with children and young people with complex and challenging needs in a classroom environment. In addition to this, you need to have knowledge of interventions to support young people's SEMH needs. The role at times, can be challenging, so you must have the ability to remain calm and patient under pressure. You will have the opportunity to work as a team, so you must be a team player and to be ready to work collaboratively as well as independently.
