School Attendance Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and organised Attendance Officer to join our school's administrative team. The Attendance Officer plays a critical role in monitoring and improving student attendance, working collaboratively with students, families, and school staff to promote regular attendance and punctuality. This position involves maintaining accurate attendance records, implementing strategies to address attendance issues, and providing support to ensure students attend school regularly.
Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily attendance records and maintain accurate databases of student attendance, entering data into the school's information system.
  • Identify patterns of absences, lateness, or persistent absence and implement strategies to address these issues effectively.
  • Contact parents/guardians by phone, email, or in-person meetings to discuss concerns related to student attendance and collaborate on solutions to improve attendance.
  • Work closely with students, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to improve their understanding of the importance of regular attendance.
  • Conduct home visits or meetings with families to address attendance issues, offering support and resources to overcome barriers to attendance.
  • Collaborate with school staff, including teachers, counsellors, and senior leadership, to develop and implement initiatives promoting improved attendance.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance-related communications, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports and statistics on attendance data for school leadership and relevant stakeholders as required.
  • Provide support and guidance on attendance-related policies and procedures to students, parents, and staff members.
  • Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and best practices related to school attendance.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education or training in a relevant field is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within an educational setting is preferred, demonstrating a strong understanding of attendance procedures and interventions.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff members.
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgemental approach when dealing with attendance-related issues.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and legislation related to school attendance and safeguarding.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
