Lead Software Engineer | Backend (Java or Python) | National Security Consultancy | Up to £95,000 + bonus | High Level Security Clearance Required | Cheltenham | Hybrid (2-3 days per week on-site)
Yolk Recruitment are working with a expanding national security consultancy growing their software engineering function due to an influx of new project wins. They're looking for an experienced backend (Java or Python) focused software engineer to looking to step up into a Lead role.
As Lead Software Engineer you will be responsible for leading a small agile team of backend engineers working to design, develop & maintain critical backend infrastructure. They develop applications in both Java & Python hosting applications in AWS, if successful you will be the technical lead for the team actively contributing to the code base as well as regularly contributing to design & conducting peer reviews to ensure all the code is clean & scalable.
They're based in Cheltenham & operate hybrid working with 2-3 days per week on-site & the opportunity to work a compressed 9 day working fortnight.
As Lead Software Engineer this is what you will be doing:
- Act as the main technical authority and leader for the software development team.
- Developing backend solutions in Java or Python.
- Working closely with the architecture team & contributing to the design & architecture of scalable backend solutions.
- Collaborate with the Delivery Lead/Project Manager to create and maintain project roadmaps.
- Conduct code reviews, 121's etc.
The experience you will bring to the team:
- In depth coding experience in either Java or Python (both would be highly beneficial).
- Understanding of Cloud-based architectures in AWS or Azure.
- Use of DevOps Automated Deployment tools such as Jenkins, Gitlab, Docker, OpenShift or Kubernetes.
- Understanding of database technologies such as SQL, Elasticsearch or MongoDB.
