We are seeking an Education Inclusion and Attendance Lead to join our team, dedicated to improving the attendance and engagement of children with a social worker, including those in kinship care. This role is crucial for ensuring that attendance strategies are effectively implemented and aligned with statutory legislation.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Use IT systems to produce and analyse reports, including statistical data, often within tight deadlines. Provide these reports to senior managers and other professionals as required.
  • Oversee the attendance of all children with a social worker, including looked after children.
  • Advise schools and academies on strategies to promote regular and punctual attendance.
  • Regularly scrutinise attendance data to ensure absences are recorded according to DfE guidance.
  • Identify reasons for non-attendance, make assessments, and develop plans with specified timescales to facilitate a return to school.
  • Provide leadership and deliver training on issues related to children with a social worker, including attachment theory and trauma.
  • Support School Attendance Officers and senior managers in advising schools on attendance matters and lead the development of processes to improve attendance.
  • Directly manage the Virtual School apprentices within the team, ensuring they remain on target with their apprenticeship qualifications through supervision and liaison with educational institutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualifications in a related specialist field such as SEN, inclusion, safeguarding, or social care
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Detailed knowledge of statutory legislation related to school attendance, child protection, and special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems for report generation and data analysis.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in delivering training.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective strategies and plans.
  • Experience in managing and supervising staff or apprentices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with schools, social workers, governors, carers, and other stakeholders.
