Chair and Board Opportunities Wales Netball

S&You Recruitment are excited to be supporting Wales Netball Association as they look to fulfil several important roles on their Board including

  • Chair
  • Vice President

Board Responsibility

  • The role of the Board and its members is to supervise the management of Wales Netball' business and to discharge the responsibilities of its directors under the Companies Act.
  • Delegating appropriate authority to the Chief Executive, and monitoring and evaluating the implementation of policies, strategy and agreed objectives.
  • Ensuring that internal controls are effective.
  • Creating and maintaining positive and productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Provide direction and support for operational staff members and volunteers, helping them achieve the aims of the organisation.
  • Providing support to relevant members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • To support the delivery of the 'Better' arm of the Wales Netball Strategy.
  • To assume the role of Board Director responsible for Clean Sport across Netball in Wales.

Chair Responsibility

In addition to those duties and responsibilities performed by all board members, the chair is considered to lead on:

  • Instigating and facilitating discussions on the strategic development of the organisation.
  • Providing clarity of vision to the board.
  • Ensuring that the board has agreed strategic priorities.
  • Holding the Chief Executive to account for the effective management and delivery of the organisation's strategic aims and objectives, where appropriate.
  • Providing leadership and support to the Chief Executive Officer, where appropriate.
  • Supporting and appraising the performance of the Chief Executive Officer and other appropriate members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Building and maintaining close relations between the organisation's various constituencies and stakeholder groups to promote the effective operation of its activities.
  • Upholding the values of the organisation by example, and to ensure that the organisation promotes equality and diversity for all its stakeholders.

Person Specification

  • High level of understanding and interest in the issues relevant to netball and the activities of the organisation
  • A commitment to the values and principles of the organisation
  • Strong business and financial acumen with an understanding of the funding parameters for sports in Wales
  • Experience of committee work
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to understand complex strategic issues, analyse and resolve difficult problems
  • Sound, independent judgement, common sense and diplomacy
  • High standards of personal integrity and probity
  • Politically astute, with the ability to grasp relevant issues and understand relationships between interested parties
  • Resilience
  • Clear understanding, and acceptance, of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of board members
  • Sound knowledge of governance
