Chemical Process Engineer

Job Description:

  • To ensure that the process operations on site operate effectively, efficiently, and safely, complying with legislation in force.
  • Responsible for the design, operation, control, and optimisation of chemical processes on our Wakefield site.
  • Cost effectively maintain the processes on site to meet business requirements for reliability, energy consumption, efficiency targets and regulatory compliance, specifically with regards to COMAH and the Company's environmental profile.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and report problems. Assist in actions for continuous improvement.
  • Be flexible in your approach to duties in accordance with the requirements of the business. Duties Responsibilities
  • Work with the manufacturing team management, plant operators and laboratory team to reach optimisation of existing plant and equipment by reducing batch times, utility requirements and down time.
  • Work with the finance team to produce reports on plant performance including, but not limited to, productivity, efficiency, energy usage, product costings.
  • Work with manufacturing team to create proposals for plant improvement projects and manage these projects from development through to installation, commissioning, and completion.
  • Carry out cost estimates, produce justifications and raise capital/revenue requests for the projects.
  • For larger projects, work with consultants in carrying out ‘front-end' detailed engineering work.
  • Ensure that project work is completed without incident, following all EUK and industrial standards on time and to budget, and is compliant with COMAH and environmental regulations.
  • Follow EUK ‘Management of Change' procedures to ensure that the changes have no ‘knock-on' effects and that all relevant documentation is updated.
  • To ensure that all activities at EUK are carried out in a way that reduces risk to a level ‘As Low As Practicably Possible'
  • Routinely arrange and chair HazOp, risk assessment & basis of safety reviews for each process.
  • Set and deliver site standards for chemical processes.
  • Work within the engineering team to ensure that all site utilities are maintained to high standards to achieve optimised running and availability.
  • Maintain an ‘up-to-date' working knowledge of current legislation relating to process systems on site.
  • Lead and promote site safety
  • Provide limited "out-of-hours" cover and advice.
  • Provide Issue Permits to Work where required.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in Chemical/Process engineering.
  • COMAH experience
  • Has or is moving towards Chartership.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve complex problems.
  • Proven track record of project management.
  • Must be able to work on multiple tasks/projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Excellent PC literacy and skills, including MS Office software.
