About The Role
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 14:00 to 18;00, 20 hours per week, permanent, part-time basis.
1. Characteristic Routine Work
Definition:
This is routine manual labour associated with the daily cleaning of buildings.
Employees in this job classification are under supervision and perform
various duties requiring moderate physical strength. Typical routine duties
include, but are not restricted to: static mopping, sweeping, wet mopping,
vacuuming, dusting. Damp wiping, buffing, cleaning restrooms, removing
rubbish, polishing furniture and simple operation of basic electrical and
mechanical cleaning equipment.
Examples of Routine Work:
- Service and maintain public areas
- Static mop, sweep, wet mop, buff floors
- Vacuum clean rugs and carpet
- Scrub and clean restroom fixtures and keep restroom supplied with towels,
soap and other items
- Dust and damp wipe walls, doors, windows, woodwork and other above floor
surfaces
- Dust, damp wipe and polish furniture
- Waste receptacle washing
- Scrubbing floors with machines
- Spot clean carpets
- Clean lifts and stairwells
- Service and maintain around outside of buildings
- Keep simple records and make simple reports
- Safety check and storage of equipment
- Notify supervisor of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement
- Perform related work as required and instructed, including emergency work.
2. Characteristic Non Routine Work
Definition:
This is manual labour associated with the recurring but non routine cleaning
and maintenance of buildings. Employees will be under supervision and will
perform various tasks requiring moderate physical strength. This work is
normally of the special clean nature.
Examples of Non Routine Work
- Stripping and refinishing floors
- Scrubbing floors with machines
- Vacuuming, furniture, blinds, curtains and vents
- Window washing
- Wall and partition washing and vacuuming
- Light fixture vacuuming and washing
- Carpet shampooing
- Related work as required and instructed
- Moving furniture
3. Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and safe use of equipment
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength
- Ability to operate electrical and mechanical cleaning equipment
- Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions in English in the
conduct of the job
- Ability to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, fellow
employees and clients.
Minimum Training and Experience
Such training and experience as may be gained through schools and training
centres and some experience in performing cleaning work and other manual
labour; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
