Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our innovative team. This role involves the design, development, and implementation of technically innovative and commercially competitive new products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering or product design and be passionate about bringing prototypes to market.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Design and develop new products, ensuring they are technically innovative and commercially competitive.
  • Perform rapid prototyping, prototype builds, functional lab testing, and analysis of test data.
  • Utilise tools such as tolerance analysis, FMEA/DFMA, and computer simulation to ensure robust designs.
  • Produce manufacturing and technical drawings, BOMs, and maintain technical documentation.
  • Ensure all designs comply with contract specifications and industry standards.
  • Liaise with clients to capture requirements and prepare proposals.
  • Collaborate with external manufacturing partners and suppliers to deliver high-quality products.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A 2:1 degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.
  • Strong creative and technical abilities in concept generation, engineering analysis, and detail design.
  • Enthusiasm for innovation and creativity, with a proactive approach to product development.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks and Creo desirable).
  • Knowledge of drawing and design standards and a competent understanding of design for manufacture.
  • Understanding of a wide range of manufacturing techniques, materials, and assembly processes.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Good problem-solving skills and understanding of root cause analysis.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise, work to deadlines and under pressure.

Desirable:

  • Industry experience within an engineering role or previous internship.
  • Knowledge of developing plastic injection moulded components for mass manufacture.
  • PDM system experience.
  • Software coding experience (VBA or Python).
