They are currently seeking a skilled and experience Transport Planner to join their dynamic team.
The Transport Planner will be responsible for the efficient planning and coordination of their general haulage operations. This role requires a detail- orientated individual with strong organisational skills and experience in transport planning.
The successful candidate will ensure effective utilisation of their fleet, adherence to delivery schedules, and compliance with all transport regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Planning:
- Develop and implement effective transport plans for general haulage operations to meet customer delivery requirements
- Optimise routing and scheduling of vehicles to ensure maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Monitor and adjust transport plans as necessary to address changes in demand or unforeseen issues.
Fleet Management:
- Coordinate the allocation and utilisation of vehicles for general haulage to meet operational needs.
- Liaise with the company workshop to ensure all vehicles are maintained in good working condition and scheduled for regular servicing.
- Manage the documentation and records related to vehicle usage, maintenance and compliance.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all general haulage operations comply with relevant regulations, including health and safety, environmental policies, and legal requirements.
- Stay up to date with changes in transport legislation and industry best practices.
Communication and Coordination:
- Liaise with drivers and customers to ensure smooth general haulage operations.
- Discover, develop and maintain new business relationships with customers
- Provide clear instructions and support drivers regarding routes, schedules and delivery requirements.
- Address any issues or delays promptly and effectively, maintaining high standards of customer service.
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor key performance indicators, produce regular reports on idling, fuel usage and general operations
- Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and service quality.
- Participate in initiatives aimed at improving overall operational performance
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce costs in general haulage operations
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in transport planning, particularly within the general haulage sector
- Strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills - Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in transport planning software
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and fleet management is a plus
