Salary: £40,000 per year

Job type: Permanent, Full-time. 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday.

Bryans Salads are currently recruiting for a passionate Quality Assurance Manager to join our rapidly expanding site in Tarleton, PR4 6LJ.

About Bryan's Salads:

Bryans Salads Ltd is a third-generation family business based in the rural moss lands in Tarleton, Lancashire.

We predominantly specialize in washed, ready to eat sliced lettuce and salad leaf, we also produce high quality ready to cook vegetable packs and salad bowls, with or without added protein and vegetables, for the catering and food service industry, among others.

About the role:

As QA Manager, you will manage the quality function for site. The role involves effectively managing the quality system on site and taking responsibility for quality performance Among other responsibilities, you will oversee a team of Quality Assurance Assistants and monitor their performance and training, ensuring that all products meet our intended standards.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

Ensure Compliance with Third-Party and Retail Standards;

  • Maintain a working knowledge of BRCGS for Food standards.
  • Ensure that the Quality Management System (QMS) meets third-party and retail requirements.
  • Stay updated with changes in audit standards and industry legislation to ensure compliance.
  • Gap Analysis and Compliance Management;
  • Conduct gap analysis to identify discrepancies between current practices and audit standards or legislation.
  • Establish action plans to address gaps and ensure ongoing compliance of the QMS.
  • Implement processes for regular review and updates to maintain relevance and compliance.

Procedure Development and Update;

  • Develop and update procedures to reflect customer codes of practice, industry legislation, and audit standard requirements.
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation is in line with current standards and practices.
  • Assistance with Training and Implementation;
  • Support the on-site trainer in effectively implementing updated company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to ensure that training materials align with quality standards.

Product Quality Oversight;

  • Oversee the quality of all products produced at the site.
  • Implement measures to maintain and improve product quality, including process improvements and corrective actions.

Active Participation in HACCP Team;

  • Attend HACCP Team meetings and contribute to discussions and decision-making.
  • Review documentation related to HACCP and provide input for improvements and updates.

Management of Technical Data;

  • Review trends in technical data according to business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Support relevant teams with improvement plans and corrective actions based on data analysis.

Non-Conformance Management;

  • Identify and raise non-conformances as per established procedures.
  • Assist different teams within the business in closing out all raised actions in a timely manner.

Lead Site Audits;

  • Take a lead role in all site audits, including preparation, execution, and follow-up actions.
  • Ensure that audit findings are addressed promptly and effectively.

Deputize for Technical Manager;

  • Act as a deputy for the Technical Manager in their absence.
  • Assume responsibilities as needed to maintain continuity of operations.

By fulfilling these duties effectively, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the site maintains compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and customer requirements while upholding the quality of products and processes.

Knowledge & Specific Job Skills:

Essential;

  • Level 3 HACCP training and Level 3 Food Safety
  • Internal Auditing training
  • An understanding of food microbiology
  • An understanding of allergens and the management of allergens within food manufacturing
  • Ability to work with Excel in terms of trending and data capture.
  • Experience of implementation and maintenance of a QMS to current BRC standards
  • Experience in quality assurance: 1 year (preferred)
