Household Underwriting Manager: To manage the performance and profitable development of the Ageas standard Household portfolio through the effective control of underwriting and business development activity across all distribution channels.

You will play a lead role in shaping our underwriting strategy. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Ageas to drive profitable growth and enhance our competitive position in the market.

Main Responsibilities as Household Underwriting Manager:

  • To lead the underwriting management of the standard Household underwriting portfolio, working with external partners and Ageas teams to develop and grow profitable accounts and deliver against our strategic ambition and Plan KPIs.
  • Lead a team of underwriters who will own the underwriting management of our portfolio of key accounts and products, working with external partners and Ageas Distribution teams to develop and grow profitable accounts
  • To monitor and control existing schemes/key accounts, analysing performance, profile of business, underwriting rules and documentation and make underwriting changes/recommendations, as appropriate, to control areas of poor performance and optimise profitable growth.
  • To manage, motivate and develop the Standard Home UW team in order to meet business objectives, ensuring that effective communication and performance management takes place.
  • Develop a highly skilled and enthusiastic team of Underwriting Experts, ensuring their ongoing development is well embedded.
  • Support the ongoing optimisation of our risk mitigation strategy, covering both our reinsurance programme and other mitigations such as Flood Re. Provide the Reinsurance Manager with the support required to understand the standard Home portfolio.

Skills and experience you need as Household Underwriting Manager:

  • Underwriting knowledge & experience; A minimum of 5 years experience in a personal lines Head Office environment in a senior underwriting and/or pricing role is essential.
  • Portfolio Management; experience in managing through the performance cycle and clear understanding of the drivers of underwriting results across all key performance indicators.
  • Numeracy; excellent numeracy skills with an ability to analyse, interpret and identify trends within large volumes of data and to make and present clear and accurate recommendations.
  • Results Orientation; practiced time management experience, an excellent understanding of numbers and the ability to quickly identify inconsistencies in data, an analytical thinker who is able to deduce information and who has proven decision making skills.
  • Communication; effective communicator both verbally and in writing, able to communicate technical issues in a clear and helpful way, exhibits good questioning and listening skills, able to persuade and influence others and well developed negotiation skills.
  • Staff Responsibility; The role will have three Senior Underwriter direct reports and will also be expected to support the development of Underwriters across the whole team.
