SENCo Permanent Job Vacancy - Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week
Salary: £30,000 - £46,525 (M1 - UPS3)

We are acting as a recruitment partner to find an experienced SEN Coordinator for a well-regarded school in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. This school supports young people aged 11 - 19 with complex needs, including autism, moderate and severe learning disabilities, speech, language, communication, and interaction needs, as well as challenging behaviors.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Monitor and track teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of SEN pupils, ensuring data is used for Annual Reviews and general school reporting.
  • Liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning for SEN pupils.
  • Promote best practices and contribute to the school's aims and ethos through INSET and CPD for new teachers.

Recording and Assessment

  • Set targets to raise achievement among all pupils.
  • Collate and present assessment and performance data, sharing it with staff and other professionals as needed.
  • Establish systems for identifying, reviewing, and monitoring SEN needs, including chairing Annual Reviews for EHCPs.
  • Update the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on the effectiveness of SEN provision.
  • Keep parents informed about their child's progress through meetings and parents' evenings.

Leadership

  • Ensure all staff can recognize and fulfill their statutory responsibilities to SEN pupils.
  • Provide training opportunities for teaching assistants and teachers on SEN, including whole-school INSET.
  • Disseminate good practices in SEN across the school.
  • Identify resources needed for SEN pupils and make recommendations to the SLT.
  • Collaborate with the SLT on the strategic development of SEN policies.
  • Develop effective transition arrangements and post-school integration.
  • Liaise with outside professionals and manage their reports.
  • Stay updated on developments in SEN, such as research and legal changes.
  • Attend relevant training, CPD, and conferences, and provide feedback to colleagues.
  • Lead INSET sessions on SEN across the school.
  • Undertake SEN self-evaluation, contributing to the school SEF and Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Complete the SENCO qualification within 3 years of appointment.

Other Responsibilities

  • Undertake any reasonable tasks requested by the Headteacher.
  • Participate in duties and extra-curricular activities.

Qualifications:

  • PGCE, QTS, or equivalent teaching qualification with evidence of in-service training.
  • SENCO qualifications preferred or willingness to undertake SENCO qualification.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant knowledge and experience with SEN pupils and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Experience managing a range of approaches to behavior, including challenging behaviors.

Skills:

  • Commitment to the role and a desire to put children first.
  • Positive and creative in meeting students' needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with staff and professionals.
  • Good numeracy, literacy, and ICT skills.
