Investigator - Protecting Vulnerable Persons

Red Snapper Recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of our policing client based in Lincolnshire for Investigators working on Protecting Vulnerable Persons (PVP).

Offering a 12 month contract upon start date with possible extension, at a rate of £16.46 per hour PAYE and £21.31 per hour Umbrella. Full time, 37 hours per week, candidates must at least be PIP1 accredited. Locations in Lincoln, Grantham

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To work as part of a team in PVP to undertake the investigation of serious and complex crimes that fall under the PVP remit, involving interview of suspects, and gathering of evidence from victims and witnesses, digital media, and other sources.
  • To prepare and complete files in accordance with court deadlines, legislation, and force policy, ensuring that crimes under investigation are compliant with Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA) and the Victims Code of Practice.
  • To respond effectively to all reports of Rape and Serious Sexual offences (RASSO), child and adult abuse, and reports of Child Sexual Exploitation received in accordance with the PVP Terms of Reference, Operation Soteria protocol, LSCP and LSAB joint working arrangements, and in consideration of Force policy, and NPCC and College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice. To support the wider force with investigations when necessary.
  • To take ownership of serious and complex criminal investigations. To develop and record proportionate investigation plans and strategies. To prioritise lines of enquiry, maximising the gathering of material by securing and preserving evidence under minimum supervision. To conduct or co-ordinate all aspects of the investigation process, ensuring the highest quality of service to all stakeholders.
  • To effectively apply investigation procedures to ensure timely response to and conclusion of all enquiries.
  • To gather, develop and use intelligence effectively utilising force IT systems to enhance investigations and inform other departments/line management of identified risks and safeguarding concerns.
  • To prepare case files within the designated timescales ensuring legislative compliance in line with the CPIA, disclosure rules and the Manual of Guidance for presentation to the Magistrates and Crown Courts.
  • To attend court and give evidence in relation to those aspects of any investigation which are within the post holders personal knowledge, or in which the post holder has had any involvement during the investigative process.
  • To represent the organisation by attending multi-agency meetings / case-conferences, or other such meetings as required or deemed appropriate by line management understand and apply relevant risk assessment processes to support the determination of response and effective resource prioritisation.
  • To respond positively to operational requirements in relation to all aspects of PVP, and as required and directed by PVP Managers.
  • To cultivate and maintain good relations between internal departments, external stakeholders, and the community.
  • To be fully conversant and competent with relevant legislation, practice agreements and investigation procedures.

Person Specification

  • PIP1 qualification
  • Demonstrate experience of conducting serious and complex investigations.
  • Previous experience of problem solving and decision making with an ability to critically analyse material.
  • Previous experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Previous experience of working with confidential/sensitive material.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of IT skills including Microsoft, Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to effectively use force IT systems following training
  • Demonstrates the ability to review and present information with accuracy and clear attention to detail
  • Must be prepared to be subject to Management Vetting, in line with the Force Vetting Policy, and to undertake drug screening
  • Be able to carry out investigatory duties and gather evidence at a variety of locations including at the home of the member of the public, crime scenes or on police premises.
  • Must have the capability to travel within Lincolnshire or wider on occasion to undertake assignments; due to this requirement and the potential unsocial hours a full UK driving licence is required.
