The Competition Associate's Role
The successful Competition Associate will join a dedicated team that values innovative thinking and leadership in case handling. They will be responsible for preparing and drafting clear, concise competition documentation, conducting legal research, and assisting in the preparation of legal articles. The role involves liaising with clients under the supervision of a partner, developing a network of internal and external contacts, and attending business development and profile-raising events such as client seminars and graduate recruitment activities.
The Competition Associate
The ideal Competition Associate will have:
- Extensive experience in UK and EU competition law, particularly in merger control and foreign direct investment rules, including the National Security and Investment Act.
- Expertise in cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, dawn raids, competition law compliance, market studies, and investigations.
- Knowledge of state aid and subsidy control, including the EU Foreign Subsidy Regulation (ideally but not mandatory).
- Interest in or experience with CMA consumer protection cases.
- EEA qualification (desirable).
- Strong accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent verbal and numerical communication skills.
- Organised approach with the ability to prioritise and meet strict deadlines.
- Resilience to handle setbacks and pressure.
- A self-starting attitude, capable of working independently and within a small team.
- Ambition and a cooperative, collaborative approach to developing excellent working relationships at all levels.
- Active participation in self-development and a keen understanding of commercial awareness.
