Senior Finance Assistant

Reed Accountancy are currently assisting a client based in central Worthing who are seeking a Finance Assistant with a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of accounting procedures to join their existing team. As Finance Assistant his role is integral to maintaining the financial health of the business by ensuring accurate and timely financial administrative support in line with company policies and operational procedures.

Day to Day duties of the Finance Assistant:

  • Efficiently and accurately process payments for invoices, bills, payroll, and expenses, ensuring proper recording in the finance system.
  • Raise invoices and dispatch them to customers and suppliers as required.
  • Track and record incoming payments, posting them to customer accounts.
  • Monitor overdue invoices, follow up on them, and escalate late payments to the line manager if necessary.
  • Issue credit notes and process refunds when required.
  • Maintain precise financial records and ensure payments and incoming revenue are accurately recorded.
  • Respond to queries from suppliers, customers, and colleagues regarding payment progress.
  • Research and reconcile account discrepancies.
  • Generate monthly financial reports as needed.
  • Attend and contribute to team and staff meetings.
  • Manage own workload with proactive problem-solving.
  • Actively seek and contribute to process improvements for the team's benefit.
  • Support the line manager and team members as necessary.
  • Engage in training and development as identified in performance reviews.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of proven work experience as an Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk.
  • Understanding of accounting procedures, fair credit practices, and collection regulations.
  • Proficiency in maths and accounting skills for managing accurate financial records.
  • IT skills: MS Office Word & Excel and familiarity with Accounting software.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and lateral thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail and methodical approach to work.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • A strong team player who fosters collaborative relationships.
