Senior Electrical Engineer

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • 8 hour shifts between 8am and 8pm Monday - Sunday

The Role

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for organising and delivering planned electrical work and supporting reactive electrical maintenance, in a safe and compliant manner throughout the properties in their area. Leading a team of specialist electricians and working alongside internal and third-party partners. All underpinned by great customer service.

They will support the development and execution of the national Estates and Facilities Management strategy, asset condition and lifecycle planning, ensuring consistent delivery of quality standards. The role holder is the Electrical Authorised person in the region and accountable for health and safety in their area of work.

What you`ll be doing

  • Focal point for expertise in Electrical safety across their region, acting as a technical specialist for electrical maintenance works within commercial buildings.
  • Carrying out Authorised Persons (AP) duties across their geographic area.
  • Support the constant development and implementation of the Electrical safety procedures as part of the broader Health and Safety strategy.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and issuing of electrical safety documentation within their area of responsibility.
  • Locating and rectifying a wide range of electrical faults. Understanding the cause and risk to asset condition and investment. Future planning to mitigate risk, protect the asset and customer experience.
  • Organise and execute LV switching, isolations, earthing, identification of point of works in line with the electrical safety procedure.
  • Providing expert electrical expertise within a modern building services environment.
  • Support and contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive electrical safety-training programme, including the assessments and auditing of roles within the Unite Students electrical safety procedures.
  • Report to the Duty Holder to advise on responsibilities and recommendations from an electrical safety and strategic perspective.
  • Maintenance of electrical assets within plant rooms, and domestic and commercial installations.
  • Assist in the mobilisation of new and refurbished properties in regards electrical specification.
  • Assist in the delivery of transformational change projects providing technical support and advice throughout.

What we`re looking for in you

  • Desirable relevant engineering qualification- be electrically qualified within the following range:

  • HNC/HND

  • ONC/OND

  • NVQ Level 4

  • It would be advantageous to being registered to a professional body IET or similar

  • Have Management/supervisory and relevant post experience.

  • Hold qualifications in LVAP operations - Electrically Authorised Person

  • C&G 2391 or equivalent qualification (testing and inspection)

  • Latest edition of BS7671 qualification

  • Be technically competent and qualified to safely operate, and make safe to work on or test, the equipment, systems, or installations for which appointment is sought.

  • Be confident, self-motivated, and always set a good example.

  • Demonstrate good leadership qualities, coach colleagues in the moment, continuously providing feedback to improve their performance and stay motivated.

  • Desirable to have previous experience with L2 fire safety systems.
