We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Wakefield. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong background in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs as well as Special Educational Needs (SEN). The successful candidate will have proven experience in managing challenging behaviour and must hold Team Teach or PRICE training certification.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH and SEN, facilitating their learning and personal development.
  • Work closely with the teaching staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Employ de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies effectively.
  • Foster a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Assist with the creation and preparation of learning materials.
  • Support students during social and educational activities both in and out of the classroom.
  • Encourage students to engage with the curriculum and participate in school life.
  • Liaise with other professionals, such as educational psychologists, where necessary to support student wellbeing.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with SEMH and SEN students.
  • Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour in an educational setting.
  • Team Teach or PRICE training certification is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience, resilience, and a compassionate approach to student support.
