What does the role involve?

The role of a Cover Teacher is to support a class in the absence of the usual teacher. You are responsible for maintaining class focus using pre-prepared work to ensure that the students feel continuity in their learning and don't miss out on their education. There is no expectation for you to be a subject specialist in the subject that you are teaching, simply having face-to-face teaching experience is adequate as you will be covering a range of subjects and topics with a variety of students from different year groups with a range of abilities and needs.

There are a couple of different ways to work with us. The first being day-to-day supply. This means that you could be working with five different schools across the week throughout your local area and is a very flexible way to work with us as this can fit easily in with your availability and home lives. Schools may ask to book a teacher for a week, a month or even the whole school year. This would be a longer-term post that would require set availability from you. Just let your consultant know what you are looking for and they will be able to support and answer any questions. If you are working as a daily supply teacher, you are able to change your availability each week!

Who would this role be suitable for?

This role would suit someone who has experience as a Class Teacher within secondary school environments, is engaging and positive in the classroom, and is able to establish and maintain relationships with a range students. You will have experience in managing and being responsible your own workload throughout the day.

Holding UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable but not essential to this post. Having an in date DBS certificate that is on the Update Service is also desirable, but Reed are able to support you with a new application if this is not the case.

What will I get in return?

  • Leading rates of pay, paid to your account weekly.
  • Opportunity to work in a range of schools, with a variety of students and needs.
  • Ongoing CPD (continuous professional development) throughout your time with us.
  • A dedicated consultant who will be there for you to arrange bookings, liaise with schools, to arrange your registration as well as to support you with any ongoing questions or queries.

What happens next?

Once you hit ‘apply' below, your CV will be sent through to the consultant who you will be working with if successful in post. They will be able to answer any questions you may have, support you through the registration process and then will be on hand once term starts to arrange bookings that your support is required for. A consultant will support you with references, online training and other paperwork. Once you are signed off and ready to work, the consultant will let you know and then begin the work of getting bookings organised for you!
