Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) provides a wide range of services to the people who live, work and visit our county. Covering over 1,000 square miles, including both urban and rural communities with a population of approximately 1,060,000, including parts of the National Forest and the Peak District National Park. CommunityEducation Officer – The Role:

DFRS is seeking three passionate individuals to join our Prevention Team and make a real difference! As an Community Education Officer, you'll deliver targeted interventions to those most at risk in our communities, focusing on road, water, and wildfire safety, as well as deliberate fire setting. Collaborate with partners to identify at-risk groups and work with schools and agencies to launch impactful safety campaigns. A pool car will be provided, as this role requires travel throughout the County to fulfil job requirements.

CommunityEducation Officer– Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, promote, and implement community safety activities using various media and educational tools to reduce incidents
  • Utilise data to identify risks and those most at risk, providing education and advice on risk reduction in Derbyshire
  • Collaborate with other Fire and Rescue Services and the NFCC to deliver campaigns, liaising with media communications to educate Derbyshire residents and visitors
  • Identify and engage with stakeholders on fire and emergency issues, prioritising road safety, water safety, and deliberate fires
  • Lead and coordinate the monitoring, assessment, and evaluation of community safety events and activities
  • Attend multidisciplinary or multi-agency risk strategy meetings, providing reports and recommendations on behalf of DFRS
  • Conduct trend analysis of incident activity and support fire station personnel in developing initiatives

CommunityEducation Officer– You:

  • Must hold a full valid UK driving licence
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy with Microsoft Windows applications
  • Ability to handle distressing situations calmly and professionally
  • Effective communication with a diverse range of individuals, groups, and agencies
  • Experience working with community groups and understanding issues affecting communities and at-risk groups
  • Knowledge of issues facing vulnerable people
  • Formal teaching experience or experience presenting information to various audiences
  • Flexibility with working hours
