As the Finance Manager, you will be confident and self-motivated, and a key member of the Finance team. This role requires a hands-on professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to drive financial performance. The successful candidate will have strong experience of financial management, analysis and reporting to ensure our day-to-day finances and budgets run smoothly and to support effective long-term financial decision-making.

Wain Group is one of the UK's largest private development companies, made up of Wain Homes, the housebuilder, and Wain Estates, the strategic land company. In 2022 Wain Group reached our 50th Anniversary. Wain Homes builds approximately 1,200 homes a year from its three regional offices in Warrington, Bristol, and Exeter. It has ambitions to increase this to 1,600 homes over the next five years. It is currently promoting 3,780 acres across the country, with the potential to deliver 15,000 new homes and 3.2m sqft of commercial space.

Description

  • Manage the day to day running of the Finance Department and deputise for the Finance Director as and when required.
  • Lead and develop a small finance team, providing mentorship and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the finance department.
  • Apply a proactive approach to identify, highlight, investigate and resolve issues highlighted by the Finance team.
  • Prepare monthly Management Accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Conduct detailed variance analysis and provide insights on financial performance.
  • Monitor budget adherence and report on variances.
  • Oversee cost control processes and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior management and other departments to support overall business objectives.
  • Prepare divisional monthly VAT return, Completion Statements for our plot sales, post Journals, report on Sales and Build progress and put together weekly cashflow forecasts.
  • Administer Payroll for waged weekly paid employees.
  • Manage the CITB Levy administration and Grant applications.
  • Work closely with the other departments to ensure good communication and efficient work flow.
  • Prepare year end packs and liaise with external auditors.
  • Reconcile and make payment of monthly PAYE.
  • CIS monthly returns.

Profile

  • Professional accounting qualification - ACCA/ACA/CIMA Qualified.
  • Proven experience in a financial management or management accounting role within the construction or housebuilding industry would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Flexible with the ability to solve problems and find solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of COINS an advantage.
