We are looking for a Data Returns Officer to join our team on a fixed term basis.

The Data Returns Officer will assist with the production of student related statutory data returns with the primary focus being on returns for the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and the Office for Students (OfS). This will include day to day responsibilities such as, assisting with the production of external returns, monitoring data quality within the student management system, and liaising with departments to communicate data collection requirements.

What you'll bring to the role

Essential skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of data quality checking processes.
  • Successful experience of working with users at different levels to resolve issues with processes or data systems.
  • Experience of analysing and manipulating data in tools such as Excel.
  • Excellent IT skills, including extensive experience of using Microsoft Office (Excel to and advanced standard).
  • Excellent numerical analytical skills and proven experience of ensuring data quality and accuracy.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of HESA or other statutory returns processes.
  • Knowledge of the HESA Data Futures model
  • Experience of interrogating and manipulating large data sets.
  • Experience of using analytical and database software, such as Access, Business Objects, SPSS etc.
  • Experience of preparing reports for senior managers and Boards/Committees.
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting data for audiences at varying levels of knowledge.
