Sheffield City Council is seeking a proactive and innovative Business Development Officer to join the Opportunity Sheffield team, the council's Employment and Skills service. This role is crucial in delivering employment support projects, part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), and will focus on generating employment, apprenticeship, and industry placement opportunities through effective business development and employer relationship management.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Stay informed on local labour market trends and news.
  • Regularly identify and generate new employment, apprenticeship, and placement opportunities.
  • Maintain and enhance existing employer relationships, providing necessary support.
  • Attend networking events to establish and nurture working relationships with business leads, promoting the Employment & Skills Service offer.
  • Understand the programme in-depth to support staff in achieving targets.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of employment projects, updating senior colleagues on progress.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to strengthen relationships.
  • Plan and organise workload efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor service delivery to ensure resources are utilised to their maximum efficiency.
  • Work with the Strategic Support Coordinator to find innovative solutions to employers' workforce development or recruitment needs.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities, initiating solutions and providing advice and support to the Opportunity Sheffield service.
  • Develop systems and processes across the Employment Programmes and keep the Employment and Skills service updated through reports and presentations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of externally funded programmes.
  • Proven track record in business relationship management and generating impactful employer/business relationships.
  • Ability to work flexibly and innovatively in a forward-thinking manner.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and networking abilities.
  • Experience in monitoring service delivery and resource management.
