Job Purpose:

My client seeks a dynamic and experienced Energy and Sustainability Manager to lead the strategic and operational direction of energy and sustainability initiatives for within the Housing Association sector. This role involves managing, reporting, accessing funding, overseeing energy-related projects to ensure compliance with statutory, legislative, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Funding and Project Management: Source and bid for energy improvement funding (e.g., Social Housing Decarbonisation Funding, ECO4), and manage related projects including grant receipt.
  • EPC Band C Target: Lead efforts to achieve EPC band C for OVH and PCHA properties by 2030, identifying necessary improvements and making recommendations.
  • Sustainability Index: Oversee the Sustainability Index to ensure long-term viability of properties, including performance reporting and option appraisals.
  • Legislation and Strategy: Stay updated on government legislation, policies, and targets, producing reports and action plans, and developing energy and sustainability strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Promote energy efficiency and net zero carbon initiatives to tenants, leaseholders, and other stakeholders, addressing queries and correspondence.
  • Utilities Management: Manage utilities supplier contracts for gas and electricity.
  • New Build Support: Provide technical advice and support on energy matters for new build projects.
  • Advice and Guidance: Offer energy efficiency and sustainability advice to staff and customers to reduce fuel poverty and improve energy efficiency.
  • Energy Data Management: Collect, record, and maintain up-to-date energy data for residential assets, ensuring accuracy in the asset management database (Promaster).

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Construction Qualification (e.g., HNC/HND/Degree)
  • Relevant Energy Qualification (e.g., DEA, Retrofit Advice/Assessment/Coordinator)

Experience:

  • Proven experience in managing within the energy, sustainability or housing sector
  • Experience in bidding for government funding streams (e.g., SHDF, ECO4).
  • Knowledge of government targets for EPC band C by 2030 and experience in creating improvement plans.
  • Understanding of energy, sustainability, construction (e.g., retrofitting), and housing.
  • Experience with Net Present Value appraisal models and option appraisals.
  • Proficiency in data digitalisation for monitoring and reporting.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems, specifically energy modules.
  • Experience in promoting energy efficiency and net zero carbon initiatives.
  • Experience in managing utilities supplier contracts.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and customer care skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and database management.
  • Knowledge of the social housing sector.
  • Ability to maintain and update energy data in real time.
