An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Accountant to join an evolving organisation with a strong commercial focus. The position offers the chance to work on significant projects, providing a proactive internal financial advisory service across a range of major corporate initiatives. The successful candidate will be based in South Birmingham, with a flexible working pattern that includes two days per week in the office.
Responsibilities of the Interim Lead Accountant
As a Lead Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of the organisation. You will handle the annual budget setting process, produce key financial strategies, manage funds, coordinate budgets, provide internal advisory services, deal with treasury management activities and develop reporting tools. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating VAT implications and coordinating capital budgets. Your role will also involve playing a significant part in the closure of annual accounts.
- Handle the annual budget setting process for the General Fund and Housing Revenue Account, ensuring strategic objectives for financial matters are met through effective planning
- Produce financial strategies including Medium-Term Financial Strategy, Medium Term Financial Plan, Housing Business Plan, Treasury Management Strategy and Capital Strategy
- Act as the organisation's expert on all financial matters relating to Housing Services
- Manage General Fund, Treasury Management and Collection Fund
- Coordinate revenue and capital budget monitoring, including preparation of reports for Leadership Team and Committees
- Provide proactive internal financial advisory service across major corporate initiatives, projects and schemes
- Deal with Treasury Management activities and Strategy
- Handle VAT implications in respect of payments made and income received
- Develop financial reporting and monitoring tools for Budget Managers
- Coordinate capital budgets and programme, including financing and all associated balance sheet and asset management transactions
What the successful candidate will bring
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or qualified by experience within Government/Public Sector
- Experience in managing General Fund, Treasury Management and Collection Fund
- Knowledge of producing financial strategies including Medium-Term Financial Strategy, Medium Term Financial Plan, Housing Business Plan, Treasury Management Strategy and Capital Strategy
- Experience in handling annual budget setting process
- Ability to coordinate revenue and capital budget monitoring
- Experience in providing proactive internal financial advisory service across major corporate initiatives, projects and schemes
- Understanding of VAT implications in respect of payments made and income received
