Senior Procurement Officer Local Government

Salt Recruitment is recruiting for a Local Government client in the Thames Valley that needs a Senior Procurement and Contracts Specialist on a contract basis to cover maternity leave. This position requires you to have Local Government experience, ideally in the Place and Growth Directorate.

Rate: £400-£450

Duration: 9-12 months

Location: Mostly from home but must be able to come onsite

Key responsibilities

  • Support procurement activity to deliver the Council's strategic aims with a particular focus on delivery of priority project in the Place and Growth Directorate
  • Work alongside Council colleagues including colleagues in the Place and Growth Directorate
  • Develop an organisation wide performance management framework, including highlighting procurement and contract risks and opportunities, coordinate performance data from services
  • Providing high quality procurement related support and advice.
  • Explore innovative ways to deliver the Council's Plan outcomes.

Skills/qualifications and experience required

  • Experience and excellent understanding of the Public Contracts regulations 2015 and the implications of the procurement act 2023
  • Experience in local government procurement
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as Chartered Institute of Procurement and supply or a recognised business qualification
  • Strong IT skills specifically in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience of using e-procurement software

The Team

  • Working in a collaborative Corporate Procurement Team made up of Procurement and Contracts specialists
  • Close working with stakeholders in the Place and Growth Directorate making an impact on priority procurement projects and driving savings
  • Hybrid working - the flexibility to work from home and at the offices
