Management Accountant

The Management Accountant contributes to the overall success of the organisation by supporting the UK & Ireland Finance Director in production of accurate and timely financial information to support the Executive team decision making, implementation and enforcement of robust internal control processes and compliance with our statutory financial reporting requirements.

The Management Accountant will aid and support in decision making and executive level analysis for the organisation. Day to day duties will consist of production of management accounts, development and application of analytical tools to interpret financial information for senior stakeholders; working closely with the divisional line managers and commercial teams; assisting in meeting long term profitability objectives; involvement in the management and improvement of reporting tools for the business.

Based within the UK and Ireland Finance team in Camberley, this position works normal office hours, Monday to Friday. The primary focus will be the UK and Ireland business, but occasionally you may be required to assist teams in Europe and USA. You will be working in a busy and dynamic team alongside one other Management Accountant.

Main Responsibilities:

The Management Accountant performs a wide range of duties including the following:

Monthly Management Reporting

  • Ensure that reporting deadlines are met and improvements on the month end close and reporting are made
  • Liaison with Operations/Engineering/Sales teams for all journal entries and other adjustments to be received from the respective divisional unit owners for processing prior to month end close
  • Responsible for ensuring that each General Ledger balance sheet account is reconciled on a monthly basis - ensure correct classification, allocation, completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure that reconciling items are actively managed and cleared out by the following month save for exceptional circumstances
  • Ensure correct allocation of amounts in the general ledger - review coding to GL accounts
  • Responsible for the monthly/quarterly sales commission calculations and liaise with Sales Director for approval
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliation of stock and calculation of stock obsolescence provision
  • Responsible for global intercompany loan and trading accounts reconciliations on a monthly basis, liaising as required to resolve any differences
  • Preparation of monthly payroll journal and reconciliation of all salary clearing accounts down to nil.
  • Review expense accounts and journal any further monthly accruals considered necessary
  • Undertake variance analysis on monthly results and provide appropriate commentary
  • Analyse working capital movements and propose and implement improvements
  • Ensure recharges with multiple local/global entities are booked and charged out correctly

Statutory reporting

  • Responsible for preparation of draft statutory accounts for all UK entities in a timely manner including full audit trail back to underlying trial balance
  • Prepare supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the external auditors as necessary.
  • Ensure all audit adjustments are correctly journaled
  • Develop, implement and ensure compliance with accounting policies

Budget /forecasting preparation

  • Assist Finance Director with the annual budget and monthly forecasts in consultation with the management unit owners

Taxation

  • Responsible for preparation and submission of the quarterly group VAT return
  • Responsible for preparation and submission of tax returns
  • Responsible for submission of quarterly / annual corporation tax payments
  • Liaise with external tax advisors for the completion of the yearly tax filings

Banking and Treasury

  • Review bank/cashbook reconciliations on a monthly basis and ensure any unreconciled differences followed up in a timely manner.
  • Raise ad-hoc payment requests on online banking platform as required
  • In conjunction with the other Management Accountant, manage group treasury function.

Other

  • Liaising with the purchase ledger clerk and divisional unit owners to ensure that invoices are received on time, processed and coded accordingly
  • Provide support to the sales ledger clerk in raising sales invoices as required
  • Provide support to the purchase ledger clerk to ensure accurate posting of purchase invoices
  • Raise ad hoc sales invoices as required
  • Co-ordinate the upkeep of central leases and key documents register
  • Ensure timely submission of pension contributions and liaise with pensions providers to resolve any queries
  • Completion and submission of P11d forms
  • Manage the fixed asset register
  • Point of contact / resolution of issues for Stores, Warehouse and Logistics teams with processing stock transactions within Microsoft Dynamics NAV
  • Key liaison contact with external Microsoft Dynamics NAV consultants, including raising and follow through of support calls
  • Review and update internal control procedures on an ongoing basis

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experienced management accountant with experience in a dynamic business with complex stock requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of UK GAAP (we currently report under FRS102 but may move to IFRS in due course)
  • Excellent Excel skills and Microsoft Dynamics NAV (including thorough understanding and experience of stock module) is a pre-requisite for this role

Education and Training:

CIMA/ACCA qualified, or qualified by experience
