The role

As a tutor working across two sites - HMP Feltham and HMP High Down, you will play a crucial role in helping our learners develop essential vocational skills that will serve them throughout their lives. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons, tailoring your teaching to meet the needs of each individual learner. Your passion for education and dedication to our learners' success will make you a valuable asset to our team. This is a full-time permanent role, 37 hours per week over 4.5 days. Monday - Thursday 8:00 to 5:00 with a 13:00 finish on a Friday. You will be working with approximately 12 to 14 learners at any time. All planning and marking are done on site within the working hours and there is not a requirement to complete any additional extra-curricular activities apart from within your working day.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality lessons across various subjects.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
  • Assess learner needs and develop individualised learning plans.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support learners in achieving their qualifications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for all learners.
  • Stay up to date with curriculum changes and best practices in functional skills education.

The person

What we need from you
To be successful in the role Trainer, you will need:

  • A teaching qualification OR subject specialist qualification at Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards)
  • Track record of effective teaching in subject specialism
  • Service experience.
  • Flexible approach to working in a demanding environment.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Having the ability to track and monitor leaners progress against course criteria.
  • Have at least 2 years' experience in the relevant vocational area.
  • Willing to gain Award in Education within 6 months.
  • Willing to gain the TAQA assessment qualification within probation.
  • Commitment to gain a subject-specific qualification to allow them to train to Level 3, within 2 years.
  • Commitment to gain an assessor award required by relevant Awarding Bodies, within one year.
  • Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
