Competition Lawyer (Managing Associate / Legal Director) 6-12+PQE: Bristol

Our client, an award-winning Competition team as part of their broader Commercial Services Group, is seeking to recruit a Managing Associate or Legal Director. This is a full-time, permanent role offered on a hybrid working basis, based in Bristol.

In this role, you will be involved in and lead (with supervision) on a wide range of antitrust matters. This includes advising clients on merger control work, investigations, compliance training, and providing commercial/regulatory advice. Additionally, you will undertake National Security and Investment Act analyses and notifications, as well as advise on subsidy control and associated policy. Depending on your experience and interests, you may also be involved in wider regulatory, dispute resolution, or commercial matters requiring competition law expertise. This role offers a varied multi-disciplinary practise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising clients on antitrust matters, including merger control, investigations, compliance training, and behavioural advice.
  • Undertaking National Security and Investment Act analyses and notifications.
  • Providing commercial/regulatory advice tailored to your existing experience.
  • Building and nurturing client relationships through targeted marketing and business development initiatives.
  • Potentially working on competition litigation and appeal cases.
  • Collaborating with a cross-office collegiate team and assisting in the supervision of more junior lawyers.
  • Playing an active, senior role in developing the client's offering locally and nationally.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Registered Foreign Lawyer or equivalent) with 6-12PQE (applications that exceed this PQE bracket are welcome).
  • Good level of experience in antitrust, covering merger control, competition investigations, compliance programmes, behavioural advice, National Security and Investment Act analyses and notifications.
  • Experience in competition litigation and subsidy control is desirable.
  • Broader commercial and/or regulatory experience would be valuable, as would experience across various sectors.
  • Proven track record in business development and client relationship management.
  • Experience in supervising and/or managing a small team, including matrix management.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide strategic advice.
  • Strong commitment to collaboration and contributing to the client's growth.
