Revenues Inspector – Public Sector – Oxford – £15.98 p/h PAYE - £19.73 p/h Umbrella (Inside IR35) - Start ASAP – 3-month contract

Reed Talent Solutions are supporting a local authority based in Oxford in the search for a Revenues Inspector. The team are experiencing a significant phase of growth and development and are seeking a proactive and organised Revenues Inspector to join their Financial Services team. This role is crucial for monitoring property changes within the city, ensuring efficient property inspection services, and maintaining accurate property databases to maximise the collection of Business Rates and Council Tax.

The ideal candidate will have either direct experience with Council Tax / Business rates inspections or another enforcement role such as trading standards.

90% of this role will be walking / traveling around Oxford on visits.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Travel within the Council's boundary to inspect both commercial and domestic properties and building sites.
  • Determine completion of new builds and property alterations to timely update the rating system, ensuring no loss of revenue.
  • Visit residents to assess eligibility for various discounts and exemptions, reducing liability for those entitled.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date property databases.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure correct database management and efficient collection of arrears.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent), including English and Maths at grade C or above, or qualified by experience.
  • Experience working independently, managing own workloads, and using judgement to solve problems.
  • Proven knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates collection.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for mobile working and database maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and communicate information effectively to non-specialists both verbally and in writing.
  • Full clean driving licence is essential.
