Internet Matters is a not-for-profit organisation that helps parents, carers and professionals keep children and young people safe online.

We have not yet reached our 10th birthday but are one of the leading online safety organisations in the UK working with major global brands like Meta, Google, and TikTok and our founding partners BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media O2.

We're here to offer the best advice and information available to help parents, carers and professionals engage in the online lives of children and young people, empowering them to manage the risks they may face online.

We exist to:

  • Give parents and teachers the advice and support they need to help all children embrace the internet with confidence and protect them from online harms.
  • Raise awareness through campaigns and industry partnerships so that children and young people can be happy and healthy online.
  • Ensure the views of parents and children are consistently and systematically heard by industry, policymakers and government.

Overview of role

As the Digital Content Executive, you will join the Digital Team to help deliver resources and guidance for parents, carers and teachers that help keep children safe online. You will join the content team to help support on new and existing web content and projects. In particular, you will work to ensure our parental controls guides are regularly updated with new updates and guides.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and update existing content that sits on the internetmatters.org website to ensure it reflects the latest research and advice;
  • Help maintain our parental controls offering, including updating existing guides and adding new guides as needed;
  • Support on creation of written and video content for trending topics related to online safety and popular apps/platforms;
  • Research and suggest new and unique topics related to online safety and which are relevant for parents;
  • Support planning and maintenance of our content calendar alongside the Digital Content Manager and Marketing Team;
  • Provide regular content updates to Marketing and the wider Internet Matters team;
  • Support on one-off projects and campaigns as needed (through content creation or editing/proofreading);
  • Liaise with third-party contributors, designers and videographers for various content needs;
  • Support on content creation for partner projects;
  • Create presentations to be shared during webinars or with internal stakeholders.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree educated in field related to writing, journalism or similar;
  • Minimum 1 year experience working or volunteering in a digital content environment;
  • Experience writing to inform or instruct audiences;
  • Skills in proofreading and editing;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Self-starter who is able to prioritise relevant work;
  • Able to collaborate and work with others;
  • Organised/able to use tools to stay organised;
  • Growth mindset/willingness to learn new skills or about new topics.

Desirable

  • Experience with WordPress or similar content management systems;
  • A working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Semrush or similar products;
  • Experience writing for different audiences and consider SEO principles;
  • Awareness of online safety issues impacting children, such as those highlighted across news sources;
  • Interest in/engagement with social media, video games or other online entertainment.
