Position: Health Care Assistant (HCA)

Location: Thanet, Kent

Employment Type: Self-Employed Contractor
Pay Rate: £14.00 - £17.00 per hour
Shifts: 12-hour shifts (Days: 7am to 7pm & Nights: 7pm to 7am)
Accommodation: Provided while on shift

Role Overview:

As a Health Care Assistant, you will undertake medical duties ensuring the health and wellbeing of persons at their treatment unit in Thanet. You are expected to adhere to JRCALC guidelines and work within the scope of your HCPC registration, maintaining clinical objectivity with the patient's wellbeing in mind.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to assigned tasks via our online system in a timely manner.
  • Maintain good communication and relations with the Operations team and Clinical Managers.
  • Ensure your kit and drugs are up-to-date and satisfactory before starting duties, ensuring all items used follow the appropriate auditable trail and documentation.
  • Measure and record baseline observations upon initial contact with individuals and at appropriate intervals thereafter.
  • Act upon clinical needs as necessary.
  • Produce accurate medical notes for ongoing care and clinical audit purposes.
  • Ensure the medical welfare of colleagues in the security team.
  • Submit all administrative paperwork and invoices in line with company procedures.
  • Respond to requests by other stakeholders in the event of a medical emergency on-site.
  • Brief the Team Leader/HCP in the event of patient deterioration.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • FREC 3 / First Aid at Work certificate (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated Continuous Professional Development and BLS/ILS competencies.
  • Provide proof of your COVID-19 and childhood vaccination status.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in a prehospital or emergency department setting (Essential).
  • Basic IT skills (Essential).
  • Fluency in English (Essential); ability to speak other languages (Desirable).
  • Full driving licence and reliable transport (Essential).
  • Knowledge and understanding of JESIP (Desirable).

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when necessary.
  • Ability to identify and correct signs and symptoms of a deteriorating patient.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, particularly when interacting with patients.
  • Attention to detail and accurate information recording.
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in disruptive or aggressive situations.
  • Willingness to register with The Health Practice Associates Council (HPAC).

Other Information:

  • Pay rate: £14.00 - £17.00 per hour.
  • 12-hour shifts: Days (7am to 7pm) & Nights (7pm to 7am).
  • Accommodation provided while on shift.
  • Successful candidates will need to provide consent for a DBS check and Home Office security clearance, which may take up to 12 weeks.
