Summary:

The main focus of this contract role is to deliver improvements and build on the current Department of Mechanical Engineering's web presence, which includes the external facing website, intranets, social channels and digital signage. A strong focus is on preparing the external facing website for the clients' upcoming CMS migration to Drupal 9.

This must be done based on an existing strategy for development of the site in consultation with the academic and professional services colleagues in the department and key contacts in the Faculty of Engineering's Digital Innovation Unit.

The Senior Communications Officer (Digital) will help develop and implement the communications and through delivery and evaluation of a wide range of communications projects and materials including, but not limited to websites, e-newsletters, multimedia content and social media.

Key Skills:

  • Strong Drupal experience
  • Experience of website building and amending; social media in a professional setting.
  • Higher Education experience is desirable.
  • A solid understanding of the use of a range of social media platforms
  • Demonstrated understanding of what makes a successful digital campaign.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing digital campaigns for more than one audience.
  • Excellent knowledge of website content management systems and email marketing systems
  • Experience of using Adobe Creative Cloud design tools to create impactful communications.
  • Experience of using Google Analytics and/or other metric performance software
  • Knowledge of data protection and digital compliance practices
  • Experience of working in a variety of sectors
  • Brand Management experience

Responsibilities:

  • Leading on the maintenance and development of the department's website, in preparation for our clients' migration to Drupal 9 and taking responsibility for the creation, upkeep and management of news and other multimedia content.
  • Work with the department's academics to build suitable web pages for their research/lab groups augmenting our research content.
  • Act as a department web master and be responsible for the approval of new web pages
  • Leading on and maintaining/developing communications social channels, and other internal digital media and social platforms, and providing reports on metrics for all channels including the website.
  • Leading projects such as the developing the department's intranet and ensuring it is updated with relevant content.
  • Leading on the compilation of the department's internal e-newsletters, including organisation of content, editing and distribution.
  • Researching and writing, editing and compliance checking digital content, as well as designing digital assets in line with house style.
  • Monitoring the performance and effectiveness of projects and campaigns, by gathering and analysing audience engagement through analytics and qualitative means and tweaking/devising new tactical approaches as well as reporting back to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Helping to prepare and write press releases and news items and liaising with our clients' Relations team and central Communications and Marketing for dissemination.
