Salary: £19,556 per annum

Have you recently completed a Science degree and gained a 2:1 or above?

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Technician to join this vibrant Science Department at a leading secondary school in Harpenden.

The successful candidate will provide essential technical support to teachers and students across all key stages in the delivery of the science curriculum, ensuring practical lessons are executed safely and efficiently.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong background in science and a passion for education to contribute to a stimulating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up equipment and materials for science lessons and practical's, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics experiments.
  • Ensure the safe disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials, adhering to the school's health and safety policies.
  • Maintain and organise the science laboratories, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and stock levels are maintained.
  • Assist teaching staff during practical lessons, offering technical support to students where needed.
  • Support the Science Department with administrative duties such as maintaining inventories and preparing risk assessments.
  • Carry out routine checks on equipment and facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations.
  • Help with the development and implementation of new practical resources.
  • Assist with extra-curricular science activities and events.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • A degree in Science (2:1 or above) in any of the following disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field.
  • A passion for working with children.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory protocols and health & safety procedures.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to support students and staff effectively.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, with a keen eye for detail.
  • A genuine passion for science and education.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in an educational or laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of science-related software and equipment.
