We are seeking a skilled Plant Mechanic to join our Fleet Services team. Your role will involve the service and repair of plant machinery in a safe, efficient, and economic manner. This position requires a hands-on approach to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of our fleet.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Drive and manoeuvre plant machinery as necessary, recovering defective or damaged equipment.
- Perform a full range of technical checks and diagnostic tests.
- Recognise and report on plant component defects or potential failures, assessing, recording, and/or costing repairs as needed.
- Conduct routine inspections, service, and repairs of selected plant in the fleet according to issued schedules and quality standards.
- Examine equipment and report on condition, roadworthiness, and safety.
- Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs and adjustments under the instruction of prescribed quality standards.
- Interpret and implement technical service instruction data and manufacturers' modifications.
- Maintain personal tool kit, special tools, and equipment in a good, safe, and secure condition.
- Be prepared to work outside of normal working hours and undertake departmental standby rota responsibilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Hold a Level 3 qualification in plant maintenance or an equivalent alternative.
- Experience working in a fleet workshop or garage.
- Understanding of Health & Safety Policy and its application to workplace safety.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical faults using electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Good written and verbal communication, liaison, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and plan, organise & prioritise work within tight timescales.
- Confidence in responding to customers and colleagues with understanding and diplomacy while maintaining an objective and professional stance.
- Capability to remain calm and positive in challenging circumstances and cope with fluctuating workloads.
