Facilities Technician

  • Annual Salary: £29,672 to £31,538 including London Weighting

  • Job Type: Full-time (36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year)

We are seeking a Facilities Technician to join our team in a busy further education college environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing upkeep and general maintenance of the site's fixtures, fittings, building fabric, and services, ensuring the highest quality standards.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conducting minor repairs to walls, such as filling and decoration, and making good rooms.
  • Undertaking window and door repairs, including replacing locks, handles, closers, and stops.
  • Performing carpet and vinyl repairs, as well as wall fixings for shelving, clocks, blinds, and fixture hanging.
  • Handling basic plumbing tasks, such as unblocking toilets and sinks, installing taps, tiling, and grouting.
  • Carrying out furniture repairs, moves, and assembly.
  • Providing solutions to maintenance issues and attending to urgent health and safety hazards.
  • Carrying a site radio at all times to respond to calls for assistance.
  • Conducting routine inspections of the campus, reporting all health and safety hazards and maintenance issues.
  • Supervising maintenance contractors on college campuses alongside the Estates team.
  • Performing weekly fire alarm tests and ensuring all buildings and rooms are secured after use.
  • Supporting the carbon reduction programme and implementing energy-saving initiatives.
  • Participating in personal staff development programmes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in general maintenance and facilities management.
  • Ability to perform a variety of repair tasks, including basic plumbing and carpentry.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to provide solutions to maintenance issues.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety regulations.
  • Full & Clean UK Driver License
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Willingness to undergo training for designated first aider (if not already qualified).
