Fully Office based role in Northampton working, 08.30 - 17.00 Monday - Friday

Our client is a multiple award-winning, leading tax consultancy practice based out of stunning offices in Northampton. They support clients with tax saving service offerings, and they've been recognised as the fastest growing tax consultancy firm in the UK and Ireland. They're looking for a Legal Research Associate to support the firm's continued growth across the UK.

You will be investigating tax disputes and working with clients to challenge the dispute with HMRC. The end goal is to have the decision overturned. A background or interest in taxation, accountancy, or legal services (full or part qualified) is desired. This is a good opportunity for a graduate, or someone who has worked within research and development previously.

What will you be doing:

  • Review and respond to HMRC (letter writing)
  • Organise and attend client calls to discuss each Tax dispute.
  • Investigations - carrying out thorough investigation of each dispute, looking for a solution and angle to challenge the dispute with HMRC.
  • Extensive research into tax law
  • Report writing.
  • Investigate trends to continuously improve.
  • Communications and debriefs with delivery team and wider team members.
  • Keep abreast of compliance and legislation.
  • Travel within the UK to see clients, on occasion.
  • Ensure all client files are kept up to date in Salesforce.

What are we looking for?

  • A background in Tax, Accountancy, Legal and/or R&D would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working with people at all levels
  • Report writing experience desired
  • Full UK driver's license essential
  • Prior R&D Tax Credit experience and understanding of the tax claim process is advantageous
  • Previous experience of HMRC enquiries or legal disputes is advantageous
  • Intermediate to advanced IT skills across the Microsoft suite
