About the role

Based within the Information Systems and Identity and Access Management (IS and IDAM) division, the IDAM Technical Services Manager will be responsible for leading a team of IDAM Analysts and Engineers. The IDAM Technical Services Manager is responsible for planning resources; scheduling work; monitoring progress against timescales; anticipating and avoiding potential incidents; and responding to issues and requests raised by stakeholders. The key objectives for the post are to provide a stable service; diagnose and respond quickly to resolve incidents; and identify ways to continually improve the service to achieve better value for the University.

IDAM Responsibilities

  • Provides expertise and specialist guidance on identity and access administration technologies and wider IDAM issues to senior managers, IDAM Analysts/Engineers and external stakeholders.
  • Champions and drives adoption of IDAM-industry standards within IT Services and the wider University. Contributes to the definition, communication and implementation of IDAM strategy, methods, and working with team to implement and embed them.
  • Leads the planning, development, delivery and maintenance of IDAM technologies, as well as implementation of IDAM tooling.

Works collaboratively with other IT Teams to deliver shared outcomes and be responsible for any change delivery for any IDAM components.

  • Maintains roadmaps, schedules and supervises IT maintenance and installation work, including major configuration changes and upgrades.

Consults with other IT Teams, key business stakeholders and external suppliers, as needed. Ensures tasks are carried out in line with SLAs.

  • Ensures that procedures and working practices are fit for purpose and current. Accountable for ensuring that Incidents and problems are identified, recorded, monitored and resolved. Provides appropriate status and other reports to specialists, users and managers.

Person Specification

  • Significant experience of leading technical teams and developing and sustaining a high-performance culture.
  • Strong technical background with extensive experience across multiple technologies, to include experience delivering, developing and running IDAM tools.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing technical understanding on strategic, large/complex security and/or identity and access management projects.
  • Experience with IDAM tools and principles (e.g. SSO, federation, MFA, OpenLDAP, Shibboleth, Active Directory, identity lifecycle management, authentication and authorisation systems. Open Enterprise Server (OES), netIQ eDirectory, netIQ Identity Manager (IDM), RBAC, PAM, risk-based authentication, Access reviews etc.).
  • Proven ability to work effectively with key stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements, manage expectations and keep them apprised of progress.
  • Strong collaboration, influencing and communication skills with an enthusiasm for advocating technical excellence.
  • Desirable qualifications: ITIL V4, CISM, CISSP.

Salary / Package

This is a senior position (grade 7) offering a competitive salary (depending on experience), along with 29 days annual leave (plus 4 closure days over Christmas and 8 bank
holidays), flexible working (office based at least two days a week) and an attractive pension scheme (up to 21% employer contributions).
