Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team, specialising in substation projects within the energy sector. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in civil engineering and experience working with Tier 1 contractors. This role involves managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects to ensure they are completed on budget and to the required standard.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management:

Oversee the financial and contractual aspects of substation construction projects from inception to completion.

Cost Estimation and Budgeting:

Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports. Track project costs and manage budgetary constraints.

Contract Administration:

Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Ensure all parties adhere to the contractual terms.

Risk Management:

Identify potential financial and contractual risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Cost Control:

Implement effective cost control measures. Monitor and report on project financial performance and progress.

Valuations and Variations:

Conduct valuations, assess variations, and agree on change orders with clients and subcontractors.

Procurement:

Assist in the procurement of materials, services, and subcontractors. Ensure competitive pricing and adherence to project specifications.

Reporting:

Produce regular financial and progress reports for senior management and stakeholders.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

Ensure all work complies with relevant standards, codes, and company policies. Maintain high-quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Stakeholder Management:

Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams. Address any issues promptly to ensure smooth project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quantity surveying, specifically within the energy sector and substations.
  • Previous experience working with Tier 1 contractors is essential.
  • Proficient in using industry-standard software for cost management and project management.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost control techniques.
  • Membership of a professional body such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent is desirable.
