Financial Accountant

Our Client is one of the UK's top 100 law firms, with a strong reputation for both commercial and private client work. They have expertise in undertaking complex corporate and property transactions, as well as commercial, tax and trust matters and disputes. With a history dating back over two centuries, they have recently moved to stunning new offices.

They are now looking for a Financial Accountant. Working closely with the Financial Controller and Assistant Accountant, you will form part of a team responsible for maintaining the accounting system and records of the firm. Your role will be pivotal to maintaining the integrity of the information held, ensuring that financial reports are delivered in a timely manner and promoting best practice where possible.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the production of profit and loss, balance sheet reports on a monthly basis.
  • Maintenance of the General Ledger analytical tool within Bighand (Iridium)
  • Assist in the preparation of annual statutory accounts for the firms entities keeping up to date with technical reporting requirements.
  • Liaising with external auditors and supporting the Financial Controller as required.
  • Preparation of monthly consolidated cash flow statements and rolling forecast.
  • Assisting with the authorisation of bank payments, supplier invoices & staff expenses.
  • Overseeing the consolidated cash position for optimal return on interest bearing accounts.
  • Review of month end office account and three-way client account bank reconciliations
  • Assisting in the draw down of partner capital loans as required.
  • Maintenance of prepayments and accrual entries.
  • Review of cost lines, expenditure coding and performance against budget.
  • Maintain fixed assets register and prepare monthly depreciation journal.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review monthly intercompany balances and recharges.
  • Working closely with the Financial Controller to ensure control accounts are reconciled and quarterly VAT returns are prepared.
  • Update of counsel fees list and liaising with the cashiering team for VAT claims.
  • Assisting Financial Controller in the computation of the annual income tax charge and payments as required
  • Working closely with the SAR Compliance Officer to provide monthly reports to the Compliance committee on breaches and trends.
  • Complete various Office of National Statistics surveys
  • Liaising with budget holders to reconcile expenditure and explain variances to budget.
  • Contributing to various Finance Projects and ad hoc reporting
  • Training of team members on technical aspects as required.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong academics.
  • Previous relevant experience within a Accounts department of a law Firm.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of Solicitor's Accounts Rules.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and will be able to demonstrate exceptional case management.
  • A demonstrable track record of excellent direct client contacts and client care; and
  • Excellent IT skills, including advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Office packages, working knowledge of document management system and e-filing.
