Personal Advisor

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Personal Advisor at Trafford Council. This is a Full-time Temporary role for the next 2 - 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Trafford Council are looking for a Personal Advisor to use the least intrusive approaches possible to safely ensure children grow up in an environment where they are safe, happy, have positive and secure relationships and are able to fulfil their potential. You will also provide Aftercare work, as you will be based in the Cared for Children and Care Experienced Young People Service.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Carrying out the duties of a Personal Advisor under the terms of the Children Leaving Care Act 2000
  • Supporting care leavers living independently in the community
  • Working in partnership with other agencies to ensure that young people leaving care receive the highest quality of service possible.
  • To provide a purposeful, professional social work service within a multi-agency team to children in need and their families, including the assessment of their needs, in accordance with statutory requirements and within the service procedures/guidelines.
  • Offering advice to young people who are in care where there is a Transition Plan for them to move to independent living placements and to work jointly with their Social Worker in preparing plans for their independence.
  • Offering advice and support to young people who have left care.
  • Maintaining regular contact with care leavers and offering direct support to young people to enable them to acquire practical living skills, and assisting them with issues of accommodation, income, health, education, and training.
  • Advocating on behalf of young people with other agencies and assisting the young person in developing their own ability to negotiate with agencies and others within their community.
  • Assisting young people in maintaining relationships with their family and developing positive relationships with their peers and other relevant people to increase their ability to understand the nature of relationships.
  • Ensuring that plans for young people are reviewed and updated on a regular basis and taking a lead role in implementing their Pathway Plan
  • Keeping up to date records and recordings in line with the Authority's policies and procedures

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have previous Personal Advisor / Family Support Worker experience.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, service users, family members, carers, and other members of staff.
  • Strong IT Skills, as you will be Microsoft office, including internal council systems.
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service
  • Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a vehicle – desirable
