Part-Time Customs Compliance Manager (Hybrid)

Freightserve recruitment are looking for a part-time Customs Compliance Manager for a well-established Freight company based in Colnbrook, Berkshire area.

Responsibilities - include but not limited to:-

Customs Processes

  • Continually ensure quotation requests from customers are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring Customs Entries are being completed as per the written instructions from the customer.
  • Ensure all Custom entries are completed to a high standard.
  • Maintain customs compliance.
  • Perform regular checks to ensure customs log are kept up to date.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the department.

Customer Service

  • Ensure that customer emails and calls are managed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the tracking system is updated with all notes and actions.

Documentation/Administration

  • Maintain and manage various customs schemes operated by the company, which include bonded warehouse, Courier ETSF, temporary storage, NCTS and ensure the company remains AEO compliant.
  • Ensure billing is completed in a timely manner.
  • Updating comments and actions within the company system.
  • Site visits to customers and where applicable agents and providers.

Compliance/Health & Safety

  • Ensure team members receive the communication and instructions needed to act in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to health and safety policy, and other requirements relating to care of equipment.
  • Maintain and share with colleagues as appropriate, personal knowledge of all relevant import & export law and procedures; tariffs and duties; licenses and restrictions.
  • Create and deliver customs compliance-based training to all departments.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, attend seminars and brief the teams.
  • Ensure all Quality Management and AEO documentation is up to date and audits are completed on a regular basis.
  • Maintain and regularly review the department's SOPs.

Line Management Duties

  • 121s and Quarterly team appraisals.
  • Develop knowledge on customs procedures and compliance requirements within the company.
  • Customs team management
  • Set team targets and check they are achieved in line with organisational objectives.
  • Record non-conformities and propose corrective actions.
  • Mentoring and providing personal development plans for team members.

Strategic aspect of the role

  • Developing our cargo, parcel ETSF and Bonded Warehouse.
  • Identify and deliver effective management of our systems.
  • Take part in project developments and advise the company of best practices and opportunities.
  • Provide support on commercial projects within the NCS team.
  • Advise on regulatory requirements for all customs related matters.

Person Specification

  • Must have the professionalism to perform and organise work to suit the business and customer needs as well as working with custom regulations.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and have enthusiasm for customs legislation and procedures.
  • Must have interest in the commercial aspect of the department.
  • Must have a 5-year checkable work history with no unaccountable gaps.
  • Basic DBS Check

Essential Skills

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise as well as focus on the detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to be able to assess complex data quickly and propose solutions to satisfy both the customer and our objectives.
  • Previous experience in a similar role minimum 5 years.
  • Sound knowledge of Import and Export Customs entries.
  • Line management experience, with demonstrable knowledge of team development and mentoring.
  • Good technical knowledge of local customs systems - inclusive of CDS.
  • Good technical knowledge of Descartes.
  • CFSP experience.
  • Experience in liaising with HMRC and Border force.

Working 20 hours per week, option to work Hybrid / Work for home
