Job Title: Company Accountant (Finance and Administration Manager)

Department: Finance and Administration

Reports To: Directors

Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Salary:

  • Full-Time: £40,000 - £55,000
  • Part-Time (Qualified): £50,000 - £65,000 (pro-rata)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a versatile and experienced Company Accountant to join our specialist engineering business. The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified bookkeeper (AAT), a part-qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA), or a qualified accountant looking for a part-time role with broad responsibilities. This role requires initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently while being part of the operational management team. Experience in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial companies is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management:
  • Prepare reports for monthly board meetings and present financial data to the Directors.

  • Oversee the Sage accounting system, ensuring complete and accurate data input.

  • Prepare quarterly management accounts, including balance sheet and ad hoc reports.

  • Manage financial forecasting, budgeting, and project accounting.

  • Handle bank reconciliations, project costing, and cash flow forecasting.

  1. Accounting Duties:
  • Produce management reports and periodic accounts.

  • Prepare annual accounts and VAT returns.

  • Manage purchase ledger and sales ledger, arrange payments, and handle credit control.

  • Oversee expenses and petty cash.

  1. Support and Administration:
  • Provide accounting support for sales bids, tenders, and project meetings with clients.

  • Liaise with external accountants to finalize statutory annual accounts.

  • Administer personnel records, holiday records, time sheets, and manage outsourced payroll bureau.

  • Perform general office administration, facilities management, and purchasing.

  1. IT and Facilities:
  • Coordinate with external IT service providers to manage IT needs.

  • Handle general office administration and facilities management.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Broad-based management experience in areas such as personnel, IT, purchasing, and facilities management.
  • Understanding and experience with commercial contracts.

Qualifications:

  • Fully qualified bookkeeper (AAT), part-qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA), or a qualified accountant.
  • Extensive experience in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial companies.
  • Strong initiative, flexibility, and ability to work under own direction.
  • Excellent report preparation and financial analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in Sage accounting system.
